The painting is part of my current exhibition Turas. An exhibition based on narratives and photographs taken of Semperit Tyre factory, now a derelict site in Park West in the outer suburbs of Dublin. The process of my paintings is to multilayer. Photography, photocopying, sketching and collaging, a final outcome, a painting on canvas to represent the subject of the original photograph. Sometimes subtracting paint from the canvas with turpentine and finding shapes and forms beneath to re-create and abstract the imagery. When the painting was at its near completion stage I proceeded to mask the imagery with a covering of white paint and cut into to the painting to reveal once again a layer beneath. Mediums of oils, inks, charcoal, chalk and carborundum vernacular materials to the tyre making industry.
